The Prompt: Entertainment Enhanced
In today’s age of digital entertainment, developers have strived to capture our attention spans with flashy interfaces, animated assets, and quick-access, high-consumption media. Accessibility is a DEI design principle that is often overlooked. As today’s entertainment industry has entered an era of greater digitization from streaming services to ticket sales, accommodations for those with disabilities or accessibility issues are necessary for the future of app development.
The challenge:
Develop a mobile application platform aimed at enhancing accessibility and enriching the entertainment experience for individuals needing medical accommodations.
Our Solution
CreateSC was an exciting opportunity to combine my passion for accessibility and entertainment. In just 72 hours, my partner and I created MemoryBook, an entertainment app designed specifically for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. The challenge of developing something new from scratch, while gaining insights from real patients and caregivers, pushed us to think critically about accessibility. Through research, including conversations with my grandmother who ran assisted living facilities, and watching panel discussions by those living with Alzheimer’s, we identified key pain points to address.
MemoryBook allows users to record memories, which can be turned into reading, listening, or watching formats—offering flexibility for varying cognitive abilities. This project was a chance to address real accessibility challenges and merge empathy-driven design with entertainment.
As finalists, we had the chance to present MemoryBook in front of the entire conference, and the project received an honorable mention.
